NEWS FROM THE ADULT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS & MEETINGS
June 23, 2008
Many SRVA teams finished well at the recent USA Open Championships for adults. Bellas won the national championship in the Womens' BB Division. Muffins N' Men won the national championship in the BB/B Reverse Coed Division. Just the Tip finished second in the Womens' U-Volley Division. Wasabi finished third in the Womens' AA Division. Muffin Tops & Atlanta Boom tied for fifth in the Womens' BB Division. Is It In Yet tied for seventh in the Womens' BB Division. Prolink finished ninth in the Mens AA division.
Nicole Miller won the MVP in the Womens' BB division, and Alexis Thomson and Crystal Moore were selected to the BB Division All-Tournament Team. Steve Kenyon won the Gold Whistle [Officials'] award. Paul Albright won the Gold Whistle award last year, so the SRVA has won this award two years in a row. Ken Cain was elected by the RVAs to the new USAV Board of Directors.
Eleven people were honored at the 2008 Boyce Banquet for long-term service to volleyball in our area of the country. They are: Jim Stewart, Bill Fulford, Bud Fields, Carmen Foster, Sid Feldman, Catherine Neely, Rose Powell, Brenda McIntosh, Ken Cain, Don Crawley, Sr., and Keith Ricketts. Congratulations to those selected.

Bad Weather Policy

It is the decision of each coach and/or club whether their team should attempt to travel to a tournament in bad weather. However, it is the decision of the individual tournament director whether or not to cancel a tournament due to bad weather. Teams deciding not to attend a tournament that has not been cancelled will not receive a refund of their tournament entry fee. In addition, those teams must notify the Region prior to the tournament that they will not participate or they may be subject to further monetary sanctions.

Junior Tryout Policy

The junior try-out policy applies to ALL junior age divisions for the 2007-08 season. The commitment dates for each state are as follows: Tennessee 11/6/07; Alabama 11/12/07 and Georgia 11/14/07. Although tryouts for younger players may occur before each state's high school championships [if allowed by that state's high school rules], the commitment date for ALL age division players are the above dates.
